Albanian Network
against Gender-Based and Trafficking Violence
Increasing women participation in decision-making has become
a must. Albania is delayed in this process.
08.03.2009
The Albanian
Network Against Gender-Based and Trafficking Victims,
commemorating the 8th of March, the International
Women Day, hails all those women and girls, and that portion of
the Albanian society and state working and fighting every day to
built the respect for their rights and dignity in all the
fields: in family, work, education, art, creativity and in the
political life.
We hope than more
than any other day, this day shall serve to restitute the
Albanian state attention to the women in need, to those who
every day are faced with inequality and poverty, physical and
psychological violence in their families, to those who work with
all their heart to ensure a living for their families, have no
coin set aside, but are instead always financially dependent on
other people; to the women who bring up children isolated
because of the blood feud, and to all the ones who are subject
to primitive and ordinary violation of their most fundamental
rights. Their role in the family and society life is
irreplaceable, therefore all they deserve is respect, no
prejudice.
The network of
organizations against gender-based violence expresses its
deepest regret for these phenomena, like the one published in
various media bodies a short time ago. The sexual harassment in
the work places, abusing office and responsibilities, are
amongst the wildest appearances of women discrimination. They
are not only an aspect of gender inequality, but also a serious
infringement of the women and girls dignity. Our concern becomes
even more serious if we keep into account the fact that such a
case happens in the place where the women and girls should find
the best protection and support.
All the social
reaction against this case, despite political coloring, the
gender or political dependency, gives a good lesson to the
government and all the state institutions, which have the
obligation of not only eliminating such cases from their midst,
but to also identify and fight these phenomenon wherever they
are present, including the private entrepreneurships too; to
support their denouncements not allowing prejudices and blaming
of women and girls who become victims of this behavior. It is
the task of the institutions to implement the effective law and
to improve it with the aim of preventing and preventing this
ugly phenomenon in the society. Of course, civil society is here
to help.
We think that
increasing women participation in decision-making has become a
must. Albania is late in this regard. The dreams, wishes and
commitments of each Albanian woman and of each national of the
Republic progress according to the European watch of Albania.
Thank you!
